GILDERS & PLAQUE MAKERS

Antique Frame Repairs Also Undertaken

Established by craftsman Geoffrey Brewer, the studio has been creating hand-made plaques for wall paintings and for freestanding presentation pieces since 1984.

Using only traditional methods, we supply plaques for museums, galleries, historic houses, companies, city institutions, the armed forces and private collections.

We can also arrange the professional restoration (renovation and/or repair) of all forms of antique frame, whether small or large, privately owned or gallery hung.

Our design plaques are hand-cut in the best quality hardwood timber to any shape you require. Examples of traditional shapes (i.e. Flat, Chamfered, D-End, Round-End, Oval-End, Scallop etc.) can be supplied upon request.

Gilding: all plaques are water gilded using 23.25 carat gold leaf and finished with a matt lacquer. Other finishes available include Antique Gold, Silver Leaf, Black (with gold, silver or white lettering) or Ivory (with black or brown lettering).

All lettering created is either hand-lettered or screen printed, enabling a choice on cost. Before execution we send the client a draft layout with an estimate so that all details can be checked.
